In the year 1930 when The first Football World Cup Tournament was organized by FIFA in Uruguay that time the trophy name was Jules Rimet Trophy. He was the President of FIFA. The longest president of FIFA. He holds this position for 33 years (1921 – 1954). Also, He worked as the president of the French Football Federation in the year of 1919 to 1942. FIFA gave the name Jules Rimet Trophy as his honour.

On the Football World Cup journey, there is two trophies had been used. The first one named was Jules Rimet Trophy and the second one was named FIFA World Cup. After the final Football world cup match the winning team or champion country gets the Football World Cup Tournament trophy from the FIFA world cup association.

Now, let us know about the Trophy. There are two trophies had been used for this world cup. First, is Jules Rimet Trophy from 1930 to 1970 and The FIFA World Cup Trophy continues from 1970 to the present day.

The Jules Rimet trophy was made of gold-plated sterling silver and lapis lazuli. It is drawn from Nike.  In 1974  FIFA world cup association introduced a new trophy instead of the Jules Rimet Trophy. The subsequent trophy is called the “FIFA World Cup Trophy”. It is made of 18-karat (30,875 carats) gold and its base is made from malachite with bands. This World cup weight is 6.1 kilograms, height is 36.8 centimetres. Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni company built this trophy. It is an Italian company. On this trophy, we see two humans holding up on our earth. The current holder is the Football world cup champion in France. They are the winner of the 2018 football World cup and defending champion of the 2022 football world cup.

Each game has 90 minutes of playing time, 45 minutes in the first half and the second half is 45 minutes. If the play is stopped for any reason, the referees will add an extra few minutes. This is called extra minutes.

Every team is playing with 11 number of player, there is 1 player for goalkeeping, and the other players are defenders, wingers, midfielders and strikers. This is a team game, you need to know every player’s strategy and instruction in your team. You can not win the game with a one-man army strategy like in other games. 

A total of 32 teams are going to participate in this tournament. The first round of matches is a group stage match, all the teams face their opponent country or team one by one, and after the match, winner team gets 1 point each, there are no elimination or knock-out rules. After the 1st round, 16 teams will qualify for the second round as per the points table. Those teams standing in the top position they are going to the second round In every group, the top 2 teams will qualify for the second round on a points basis. Those who hold the top most points,  they are getting qualified for the next round.

This is the second round, and it is a knock-out round. If one team will lose the game then they are not qualified for the next round. All the game is a do-or-die match, This is the stage where every game is going to have extra time if the result will not come in the sanctioned time (90 minutes) then extra 30 minutes will be given in this game, First, half is playing 15 minutes and the second half is playing 15 minutes. If the game still has no result or draw then Tiebreaker shooting will start, It means every team gets a chance to shots to the goalpost, whereas the goalkeeper is standing on the goalpost. The final rule is if it still has “no result or draws” then the toss will happen and the winning team will go to the next round.  Accordingly, the semifinal stage and final match will come. Finally, we have one team as a winner and another team as a runner in this tournament.

In the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Tournament, all the rounds are:

1. Group stage (Nov 20 – Dec 2)
2. Round Of 16   (Dec 3 – Dec 6)
3. Quarter Final (Dec 9 – Dec 10)
4. Semi-Final (Dec 13 – Dec 14)
5. 3rd Place (Dec 17)
6. Final  (Dec 18)

In every game, there are 4 referees in every match and there is one person who controls the full game with the help of two linesmen. The fourth referee is working for changing the players and giving instructions to play an extra minute to the main referee.

The main referee is going to operate the game on the field and the other two referring is called linesman, they assist the main referee when the ball is on the field or out of the field, and also they are giving instruction for foul, Offsides, goal-kicks, corners, freekick, penalty. Now the main referee has the new advanced feature to take the right decision with the help of a video, if he could not make any decision then he will make the decision after watching the video clips about the game.

There is new technology is taken by FIFA. VAR technology, One Main VAR referee will watch all the live videos about the game and 3 assistant referees will assist to main VAR referee. The Main VAR referee gives instructions to the Main referee on the field to operate and take the right decision with the help of live video.  Here VAR means Video Assistance Referee. So, a total of 5 referees are going to control every football game in the football World cup stadium.

• Every first round of matches will be played in the Round Robin Format. It means two matches will be played (Home and Away match) but now one match will play in neutral territory.
• The next round is knocked out format. If you lose then you will be out of the game.
• If you win then you will get 3 points, Draw for the 1 point and 0 for a loss.
• If two team has the same points then the goal difference will count for the qualify.
• If you get a red card then you miss the next match.
• One team wears a light colour jersey and the opponent team wears a dark colour jersey.

Fair play points for every team:

1. First, a yellow card means 1 point is deducted.
2. A second yellow card means 3 points are deducted.
3. A direct Red card means 4 points are deducted.
4. Yellow and a direct red card mean 5 points are deducted.

• Obstructed View Tickets (OVT)

Indian football history of FIFA world cup:

After the second world war (1942-1946), this is the first world cup held in Brazil. During this world war, every country was destroyed. European & Asian countries could not attend this world cup due to the massive second world war. Scotland, France, and Czechoslovakia withdraw their name due to not getting international permits.

The Host country saw there is no Asian country was going to participate, so the Brazil Football Federation contacted the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to join the tournament. The host country was requested to send their team to join the world cup tournament.

AIFF contacted FIFA and send the request to play bootless or barefoot because at that time Indian player was not comfortable with the shoe and they are not playing with a shoe before the Brazil world cup. But FIFA rejected the request and asked to play with shoes if India wants to play then must wear shoes. This is the India times newspaper report.

In 1950 was the Golden Times of Indian Football. India qualified for the Football world cup. After that India withdraw its name for various reasons from that tournament. One reason was bootless or barefoot, other reasons were travel costs, lack of practice and giving the value of the Olympics game more than the Football world cup.

Sailen Manna was the captain at that time. He was the best defender in India. According to his speech “playing bootless or barefoot was not true, The original point was AIFF did not want to send their player to Brazil due to travel cost reasons.” FIFA offered to pay the whole travel expenses but the main reason was AIFF was concentrated on Olympics at that time.

Still, we hope India will get the chance to play in the Football World Cup one day.
